Christian Yelich named first Milwaukee Brewers captain

Christian Yelich has been named the first captain in the history of the Milwaukee Brewers franchise. The decision was made during a team meeting prior to a game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Yelich, who is in his ninth season with the club, reportedly requested the approval of Hall of Famer Robin Yount before accepting the role. Yount, who played 20 seasons for Milwaukee, gave his full support for the appointment.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy noted that Yelich has long been viewed as a leader by his teammates due to his commitment to winning standards and conduct. With this appointment, Yelich joins Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees and Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals as the only active captains in Major League Baseball.
