Christian Zedig fatal assault captured on video in Copenhagen
Video footage has been released showing the fatal assault of Christian Zedig, a 32-year-old Swedish police officer, in Copenhagen’s Islands Brygge district. The incident occurred on June 30 while Zedig was in Denmark during his leave to watch football matches.
The footage, published by the Danish newspaper BT, captures the moments leading up to the attack. Witnesses report a conflict between two groups involving thrown beer cans. The video shows a suspect delivering a heavy blow to Zedig’s neck and throat, after which Zedig fell to the ground and was reportedly stomped on. He was rushed to the hospital but later died.
A 30-year-old man has surrendered to police and is currently in custody. While he denies the charges, prosecutors have suggested a potential sentence of eight to ten months. This proposed sentencing has drawn criticism from legal representatives and politicians, who argue it may not sufficiently reflect the severity of the incident. Copenhagen police are continuing their investigation to determine if further charges under different sections of the penal code are warranted.
