Christie’s to host first fine art auction in Abu Dhabi

Christie’s will hold its first-ever fine art auction in Abu Dhabi on November 1 at The Abu Dhabi EDITION. Titled ‘MAWASIM: 20 Years of Modern and Contemporary Middle Eastern Art’, the sale will feature more than 70 works spanning six decades of artistic practice across the Middle East and North Africa.

The auction includes pieces from prominent regional collections, such as the Dalloul Collection in Beirut and the Barjeel Art Foundation in Sharjah. Notable works include Paul Guiragossian’s ‘Noces’ (1958-59), estimated between US$300,000 and US$500,000, and Samia Halaby’s geometric abstraction ‘Yesterday’ (1978).

This event marks a milestone for the auction house in the UAE, occurring twenty years after its inaugural UAE sale in Dubai. The auction coincides with a period of significant cultural growth in the emirate, arriving shortly before Frieze Abu Dhabi and the December opening of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
