Christina Block's Child Abduction Case Draws Political Attention

Hamburg's Landgericht has held a third closed hearing in the trial of entrepreneur Christina Block, focusing on the psychological impact of the alleged child abduction on her two children. Block is accused of hiring an Israeli security firm to remove the children, aged 10 and 13, from their father’s residence in Denmark during New Year’s Eve 2023/24 and transport them to southern Germany and later Hamburg. The children were returned to Denmark on 5 January 2024 under a court order. Six additional defendants, including Block’s partner former sports presenter Gerhard Delling, face charges of aiding the kidnapping; only a 37‑year‑old Israeli has admitted guilt.

During the custody dispute, Block reportedly appealed to high‑level political figures for assistance. She contacted former finance minister Christian Lindner, who declined to intervene for legal reasons, and sought help from FDP vice‑president Wolfgang Kubicki, who tried to involve German and Danish embassies. Other contacts included former foreign minister Sigmar Gabriel, Hamburg interior senator Andy Grote, the Danish crown‑prince couple, and police president Ralf Martin Meyer, all of whom either declined or were unable to act.
