Christina Burkenroad retires from professional football
Christina Burkenroad, a veteran forward for Rayadas de Monterrey and former Mexican national team player, has officially announced her retirement from professional football at age 33.
During a farewell ceremony at Estadio BBVA, Burkenroad explained that her decision was not based on sporting reasons but rather a desire to move away from the demanding lifestyle of a professional athlete. She noted that football requires a '24-hour' commitment involving strict dietary habits and constant focus, stating, “I am tired, I want to live my life free.”
After 13 years as a professional, including six seasons with Monterrey, Burkenroad expressed a desire to explore new life stages and activities outside of the sport. She thanked the fans and the club, describing the supporters as the “heart and soul” of the team.
