Christina Delimিত্রas researches energy efficiency for data centers at MIT
Christina Delimitrou, a Greek professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), is utilizing machine learning to improve the energy efficiency and sustainability of large-scale computing systems and data centers.
Her research addresses a critical paradox in the digital economy: while the demand for artificial intelligence and digital services is driving massive energy consumption, many large-scale computing systems currently utilize less than 15% of their available computational capacity. This inefficiency leads to significant energy waste while systems continue to draw power.
By applying machine learning, Delimitrou’s team aims to optimize resource utilization, enhance security, and increase reliability. One such tool, Seer, is designed to predict issues in web applications to reduce latency and service interruptions. The goal of this work is to ensure that the rapid growth of AI remains sustainable by maximizing existing infrastructure and reducing the immediate need for new, energy-intensive data centers.
