Christine Wells-Wonsley advocates for proper terminology regarding late son Nolan Wells

Following a grand jury decision not to bring criminal charges in the death of 18-year-old Nolan Wells, his mother, Christine Wells-Wonsley, is advocating for how the deceased is described by the public and media.

Wells-Wonsley has requested that people refrain from referring to her son as a “man,” asserting that despite being legally an adult, he was still a teenager and a child. Attorney Ben Crump, representing the family, supported this stance, stating that Wells deserves to be remembered as he was.

The family's plea highlights a broader discussion within the African American community regarding the tendency to “adult” Black youth, a phenomenon noted in previous high-profile cases involving Trayvon Martin and Tamir Rice.
