Christmas films: New dark comedy release and holiday viewing trends

The upcoming dark comedy film ‘Christmas at the Kringles’ is set for a late October release in the United States. Directed by Kevin Lewis, the story follows the Severson family, who move into a suburb only to find their neighbors, the Kringles, celebrate Christmas year-round. The plot escalates when the Seversons discover a plan to hypnotize and brainwash them, forcing Mark Severson to team up with a rogue Santa Claus to save his family.

The film features an ensemble cast including Arden Myrin, Thomas Lennon, Beverly D'Angelo, Ron Livingston, Rachel Bilson, and Rob Riggle.

In a broader cultural context, the recurring popularity of holiday films is driven by psychological factors such as habit, nostalgia, and the desire for predictability. During the busy December season, familiar movies provide a sense of comfort and ritual, allowing viewers to engage with known stories and emotional cues that foster a feeling of security and tradition.
