Christoph Müller Foundation to donate 1,500 artworks to museums

The Christoph Müller Foundation has announced that more than 1,500 artworks from the collection of the late patron Christoph Müller are being donated to public museums. Public institutions have until the end of the year to apply online for pieces that complement their existing collections.

The collection includes diverse works such as 16th-century woodcuts by Hans Baldung, paintings by Charles-François Daubigny, Carl Blechen, and Andreas Achenbach, a chalk drawing by Heinrich Zille, and abstract works by Edmund Kesting. A jury will decide between multiple interested parties when necessary.

Christoph Müller, a former editor-in-chief and publisher of the ‘Schwäbisches Tagblatt’, passed away two years ago at age 86. While significant portions of his collection have previously been donated to institutions like the Berlin Kupferstichkabinett and locations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, this current initiative aims to distribute the remaining works widely. Although the physical pieces will be dispersed, the foundation intends to make the entire collection accessible via a digital museum.
