Christopher Bell wins Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway

Christopher Bell won the NASCAR Cup Series Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, breaking a 33-race winless streak. Driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, Bell passed defending champion Kyle Larson with 18 laps remaining to secure the victory. The win significantly impacts the Chase standings, moving Bell into second place, just 12 points behind leader Denny Hamlin.

The race was marked by numerous errors among Chase contenders, including pit road miscues and on-track incidents involving 10 of the 16 playoff drivers. These mistakes led to shifts in the championship standings for several competitors.

The NASCAR postseason now moves to World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois, for the Enjoy Illinois 300. Goodyear has announced it will use the same tire combination at Gateway as it did last season to provide teams with familiar data. The upcoming race features a 300-mile distance for the Cup Series and follows a schedule that includes practice and qualifying sessions on Saturday.
