Christopher Judge criticizes Hollywood video game adaptations
Actor Christopher Judge, known for his voice and performance capture work as Kratos in the ‘God of War’ series, has criticized Hollywood’s approach to video game adaptations. During an appearance at FanExpo, Judge expressed frustration regarding the tendency of studios to overlook the original creators and voice casts when transitioning intellectual properties to television or film.
Judge specifically highlighted Amazon’s production of the ‘God of War’ series, questioning the decision not to hire the game’s original writers. He argued that those who have spent decades immersed in the source material possess invaluable expertise that studios often ignore in favor of established stars. He also referenced ‘The Last of Us’ adaptation, suggesting that while the performances are notable, the industry often fails to prioritize the original actors, such as Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who built the characters' foundations.
Regarding his own involvement, Judge clarified that he is not seeking to reprise the role of Kratos for the upcoming television production, jokingly citing his age. This comes amid reports that Ryan Hurst, who was previously cast as Kratos, had to step down due to an injury, necessitating a new casting process for the series.
