Christopher Nolan adapts Homer’s The Odyssey for film
Christopher Nolan is adapting Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey, for the big screen. The film features a star-studded cast, including Matt Damon as Odysseus and Elliot Page, who will portray the mythological character Sinon.
Sinon is a Greek soldier from mythology who, according to Virgil’s Aeneid, acted as a traitor to the Trojans by convincing them to bring the wooden horse into their city. While the character's story is not central to Homer's original text, he plays a pivotal role in the Trojan War narrative.
The adaptation has sparked discussion regarding its faithfulness to the original epic. While Nolan retains elements such as the grand adventures, monsters, and the perilous journey, the film is noted for transforming or omitting certain aspects, such as the decisive presence of the gods and the specific meaning of Odysseus’s return.
