The epic features an all‑star cast that includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy, Elliot Page as Sinon, Zendaya as Athena and several other high‑profile actors.

The film is the first feature shot entirely on IMAX 70 mm film, employing a newly engineered camera enclosure to capture synchronized sound. Production spanned multiple continents – from a 115‑foot Norwegian longship battling rough seas off Scotland’s Moray Coast to locations in Croatia, Antarctica, South Africa, the Bahamas and Italy – and required the cast to row a 100‑ton ship and endure physically demanding conditions.

Nolan has dismissed pre‑release criticism over modern dialogue, American accents and casting choices, calling such online backlash “irrelevant” and comparing it to the scrutiny he faced during his Batman trilogy. The controversy has drawn comments from right‑wing commentators, Elon Musk and others, while cultural officials in Greece and Albania have debated the film’s impact on national heritage. The production kept a closed set, with Ben Affleck reportedly the only visitor during the six‑month shoot.
