Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' generates record ticket sales and global buzz ahead of July release

Christopher Nolan's upcoming film "The Odyssey", an adaptation of Homer's epic starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and Lupita Nyong'o, is slated for worldwide theatrical release on July 17, 2026. Early box‑office tracking projects a $275 million opening (about $120 million domestic and $155 million internationally), with potential to exceed $300 million if critical reception matches that of Nolan's previous hit "Oppenheimer".

In the United Kingdom the film set a new BFI IMAX first‑day sales record, selling 28,000 tickets for £750,000—more than double the prior record held by "Dune: Part Two" and surpassing the opening IMAX earnings of "Oppenheimer". A special screening is also planned in Mumbai at PVR Palladium IMAX in late July, where Nolan, producer Emma Thomas and several cast members are expected to appear; premium seats have already reached ₹3,300.

Nolan highlighted the film's production in a location‑diary video, revealing shoots across Morocco, Greece, Iceland, Scotland and Italy (including the Castello di Santa Caterina on Favignana). The movie is the first feature shot entirely with newly developed IMAX 70 mm cameras, underscoring Nolan's commitment to large‑format, immersive cinema.
