Christopher Nolan's IMAX Film 'The Odyssey' Sets Box‑Office Records

Christopher Nolan’s science‑fiction epic "The Odyssey," released on 17 July 2026, is the first feature shot entirely on IMAX cameras. Nolan explained his preferred seating for IMAX screenings, recommending seats just behind the centre line in the middle of the auditorium.

The film broke opening‑day records in multiple markets. In London's BFI IMAX, 28 000 tickets were sold in the first 24 hours, generating about €860 000 – more than double the previous record set by "Dune: Part Two" and far surpassing the debut of "Oppenheimer". In the United States, roughly 150 000 tickets were sold in the same period, producing around €2.9 million, the highest opening revenue in four years. The cast includes Matt Damon, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron.
