Christopher Nolan's Interstellar production details and success
The 2014 science fiction film Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan, achieved significant commercial and critical success, earning approximately 681 million dollars worldwide. The production was noted for its commitment to practical effects and scientific accuracy, utilizing theoretical physicist Kip Thorne to inform the depiction of black holes, wormholes, and time relativity.
To create the film's desolate Earth setting, the production drew inspiration from the American Dust Bowl, using fans and artificial dust to achieve a natural look. In a unique move to offset costs, the production grew approximately 500 acres of corn in Canada, which was later sold for profit.
Filming took place across Canada, Iceland, and Los Angeles. The film's score was composed by Hans Zimmer, and it won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects in 2015.
