Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey film prompts fresh book guide and revisits historic parody

The release of Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of the Odyssey has renewed interest in the ancient tale. Francesca Beretta, a researcher at St Anne’s College, Oxford, recommends nine books that explore the myth, ranging from Emily Wilson’s new translation of Homer’s original poem to modern reinterpretations by Margaret Atwood and Madeline Miller, as well as scholarly essays by Piero Boitani and Andrea Lipparini.

Separately, a 1968 pornographic parody of the Odyssey, titled “PornOdissea,” created by director Franco Rossi, is highlighted for its unconventional retelling of Ulisse’s adventures on the island of the Phaiacians. The piece offers a provocative, comedic take on the classic narrative.
