Tom Holland Delays Spider-Man Shoot to Star in Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’
Tom Holland revealed he had to make a “very uncomfortable” call to Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman to move the start of filming Spider‑Man: Brand New Day so he could honor a role in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey. Holland explained that the two projects were slated to begin on the same day, and Sony agreed to delay the superhero film because Nolan has a reputation for staying on schedule and finishing on time.
The Odyssey began production as planned, filmed across six countries, and wrapped nine days early, with a release set for July 17. Holland will play Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, alongside Matt Damon and Robert Pattinson. The schedule shift also gave director Destin Daniel Cretton an extra six months to develop the Spider‑Man script, which Holland says helped produce “the best version of any Spider‑Man movie.” Spider‑Man: Brand New Day is slated for release on July 31, two weeks after The Odyssey.
