Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey achieves global box office success

Christopher Nolan’s latest film, ‘The Odyssey’, has achieved significant commercial success and critical attention following its July 2026 release. The production, which was shot entirely on IMAX 70mm film, has grossed approximately $1.68 billion worldwide. While the film has broken various box office records, its technical format has faced criticism due to limited theater availability in certain regions, such as Canada and the United States.

In terms of awards, Universal Pictures is reportedly campaigning for Anne Hathaway in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role as Penelope. Hathaway, who previously won an Oscar for ‘Les Misérables’, faces potential competition from her co-star Samantha Morton. Christopher Nolan himself is also a strong contender for Best Director, with experts noting his potential to become one of the few filmmakers to win the award for consecutive films.

Separately from the theatrical release, a science-fiction adaptation of Homer’s epic titled ‘Odysseus Rising’ is in development as an Audible Original. This project, written by Adrian Tchaikovsky, is set to feature narration by Andy Serkis and is expected to launch in early 2027.
