Christopher Rufo debates South Asian assimilation in US

Right-wing activist Christopher Rufo and Jonathan Keeperman recently used a podcast to debate what they termed ‘the Indian question.’ The discussion focused on whether Americans of South Asian descent can fully assimilate into United States society and whether their growing numbers and cultural presence present a challenge to American identity.

The debate was sparked by a social media post from Texas Republican candidate Bo French. French shared a photo of University of Texas students celebrating a football victory, labeling the South Asian students in the image as ‘foreigners’ who were displacing ‘Texans.’ While French’s comments drew widespread condemnation from across the political spectrum, including from fellow Republicans, Rufo and Keeperman utilized the controversy to further explore themes of ethnicity and national identity within right-wing political circles.
