Christopher Smith assumes leadership of OSCE Mission in Moldova

Christopher W. Smith has officially assumed his role as the new head of the OSCE Mission to the Republic of Moldova as of August 31. His appointment was made by the OSCE Chair-in-Office from Switzerland.

In addition to leading the mission, Smith will act as the OSCE mediator for the Transnistrian settlement process. He expressed his intention to collaborate closely with authorities in both Chișinău and Tiraspol to advance efforts toward a peaceful and comprehensive resolution to the conflict.

Smith is a career diplomat and member of the United States Senior Foreign Service. His previous experience includes serving as an assistant deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of State within the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, as well as roles in Ukraine, Georgia, Turkey, Afghanistan, Cyprus, and Armenia.
