Christos Kellas highlights kiwi production in Pyrgos
During the Kiwi Festival in Pyrgos, Christos Kellas, a Member of Parliament for Larissa and former Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, identified kiwi production as a significant driver for regional economic development.
Kellas emphasized the importance of cooperatives in enhancing Greek production through organization and export expansion. He noted that the high quality and nutritional value of the fruit present major opportunities for Thessaly and the broader Greek agricultural economy. To support the sector, he advocated for tax incentives for cooperatives and measures to reduce production costs and increase agricultural income.
Additionally, Kellas highlighted the establishment of a specific compensation category, known as ‘krevatina’, by ELGA for kiwi damage, noting that fulfilling this long-standing producer demand was a key achievement during his tenure at the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
