Christos Senekis announces support for female farmers and rural investment

Agriculture Minister Christos Senekis has announced new support measures to improve access to financing and sustainable investments within the agricultural sector. During the ‘Contribution of Rural Women’ event, Senekis emphasized the importance of including women in the agricultural community to drive employment and development in rural areas.

A broad consultation involving rural women is scheduled for October 8 to assist in planning the new agricultural policy for the period following 2027. Senekis noted that these measures are intended to revive rural productivity and support the modernization of agricultural holdings.

The current strategic plan of the Common Agricultural Policy (2023–2027) involves €454 million aimed at supporting investments and young people entering the primary sector. Recent data shows over 1,200 applications for large-scale investment measures, requesting approximately €200 million, alongside 267 applications for the young farmers support scheme. The minister also highlighted the European Union’s LEADER programme as a vital tool for community-driven growth in mountainous and rural regions.
