Public concern intensified after photos from a recent birthday gathering for friend Chow Ka-wai showed Chung appearing noticeably thinner and physically unwell. Actress Charmaine Sheh confirmed that Chung was feeling unwell during the event but noted she was in the process of recovering.

Chung has a history of managing significant family health challenges, including caring for her eldest daughter, who lives with a rare chromosomal disorder, and her late mother, who battled ALS. The former entertainer has since shifted her focus from acting to her family life.
