Christy Clark discusses B.C. economic and political shifts
Former British Columbia Premier Christy Clark addressed the Vancouver Island Economic Summit in Nanaimo, noting that recent municipal election results in the Lower Mainland indicate a public desire for governance changes. Clark highlighted that several incumbents were defeated in cities such as Surrey, Delta, West Vancouver, and Port Moody.
Regarding the economy, Clark expressed concern over the growth of the public sector and the shrinking of the private sector since 2017. She emphasized the necessity of private sector investment to maintain economic stability. Additionally, Clark advocated for the aquaculture industry, arguing against the federal government’s planned ban on open-net salmon farming scheduled for 2029, stating there is insufficient evidence of long-term environmental damage.
