Christy Martin biographical drama to launch German cinema tour

The biographical drama ‘That’s Why the Lady Is a Champ’ is set to release in German cinemas on September 3, 2026. The film depicts the life of American boxer Christy Martin, who achieved global fame in the 1990s but suffered severe domestic abuse at the hands of her husband and trainer, James V. ‘Jim’ Martin.

To coincide with the release, moderator and actress Collien Fernandes will embark on a cinema tour across major German cities, including Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, and Frankfurt. These preview screenings will be followed by discussions featuring local experts and advocates working with victims of domestic violence.

The tour aims to raise awareness about the signs of toxic relationships and the importance of seeking help. Fernandes emphasized the necessity of breaking the silence that protects perpetrators and called for more effective legal systems and accessible support services for victims.
