Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens: Characteristics of the Blue Tarantula

Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens, commonly known as the Blue Tarantula or Goliath, is a spider species native to regions including Venezuela, Suriname, French Guiana, and Brazil. The species is characterized by its striking appearance, featuring a cyan-blue carapace, metallic blue legs, and an orange abdomen.

In terms of size, females can reach a body length of 10 cm with a leg span of up to 28 cm, while other descriptions note medium-sized specimens with a 6 cm body length and 15 cm leg span. They are known for being aggressive eaters, consuming prey such as crickets, grasshoppers, and small mice.

For captive care, these spiders require tropical or dry bushy environments with temperatures maintained between 27-28°C. They benefit from terrariums containing peat substrate and cork bark for shelter. Due to their nervous nature and tendency to flick irritating hairs, they are generally not recommended for handling.
