Chrysi Island: Migrant body discovered on beach
A male body was discovered on the northern coast of Chrysi Island in Crete on Saturday morning. Authorities believe the remains may be connected to a shipwreck involving approximately 60 migrants reported earlier in the week.
On Tuesday, a migrant who reached the shores of Chrysi stated he was the sole survivor of a vessel that sank due to strong winds. Despite extensive search operations conducted by the Coast Guard and Frontex in the surrounding maritime area and near Koufonisi, no further evidence of the shipwreck has been located.
Recovery of the body has been delayed by strong winds, which have prevented Coast Guard vessels from Ierapetra from reaching the island. Officials are monitoring weather conditions to facilitate the retrieval of the remains.
