Château de Rambouillet opens presidential apartments to the public
The Château de Rambouillet, located near Paris, has opened its presidential apartments to the public for the first time. While the castle officially lost its status as a presidential residence in 2018, it continues to highlight its significant political and diplomatic history.
The new permanent exhibition, titled “100 years of diplomacy,” showcases the site's role in international relations. A key highlight is the opening of the presidential apartment used by Valéry Giscard d'Estaing during his presidency from 1974 to 1981.
The castle gained international prominence in November 1975 when President Giscard d'Estaing hosted U.S. President Gerald Ford for the first G6 summit. This event helped transform the estate into a venue for highly codified and protocol-heavy diplomatic meetings.
