Châtellerault tap water temperature rises due to heatwave

In Châtellerault, France, rising river temperatures are causing tap water to reach 26°C in 19,000 households. The water is drawn directly from the Vienne river, which has reached temperatures of 29°C due to intense heatwaves.

This warming has raised concerns regarding the potential development of Legionella, a bacteria that can cause severe respiratory infections through the inhalation of droplets. The local water syndicate, Eaux de Vienne, noted it lacks the technical equipment to cool the water before distribution.

Health authorities and the Regional Health Agency (ARS) have stated that regular checks have not detected any traces of the bacteria. They confirm that the water remains safe for consumption at this time.
