Medical teams at the Gabriel Touré University Hospital (CHU Gabriel Touré) in Bamako, Mali, have successfully performed a complex surgical separation of conjoined twins. The infants, born via cesarean section on August 29, 2026, presented several congenital malformations, including shared urinary and digestive systems, specifically a shared bladder and colon.

A multidisciplinary team of pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, cardiologists, radiologists, and other specialists conducted the procedure. The success of the operation marks a significant milestone for pediatric surgery and specialized medicine within Mali.

Assa Badiallo Touré, the Malian Minister of Health and Social Development, visited the hospital to monitor the newborns' health and commend the medical staff for their scientific achievement and expertise.
