Chuang Hsin-yen undergoes surgery after facial injury in CPBL game
Rakuten Monkeys pitcher Chuang Hsin-yen is undergoing surgery following a severe facial injury sustained during a CPBL game against the TSG Hawks on August 14. During the bottom of the 8th inning, Chuang was struck directly in the face by a hard line drive hit by TSG Hawks batter Wei Po-hsuan.
The Rakuten Monkeys confirmed that medical examinations revealed facial fractures, lacerations, and broken teeth. Chuang was transported from the field via stretcher and has been scheduled for surgery to address these injuries. Despite the severity of the incident, Chuang posted a message on social media to reassure fans that he is safe and will be okay.
Wei Po-hsuan expressed deep regret and self-reproach regarding the accident via social media, stating that he has reached out to Chuang to express his concern. The Rakuten Monkeys organization has also issued a plea to fans, asking them not to blame Wei, noting that ‘no one intended for this to happen.’ The injury comes at a critical time for the Monkeys as they compete for the championship in the second half of the season.
