Chubut and Picachos fisheries prepare for upcoming seasons

In Chubut, the Provincial Fisheries Secretariat has scheduled the start of shrimp prospecting in provincial waters for October 26. The operation will involve 20 vessels, including four artisanal boats and 16 coastal vessels, to survey resource availability and distribution. This technical data is intended to inform decision-making for the 2026/2027 fishing season and promote sustainable management.

In Mexico, tilapia producers at the Picachos dam are preparing to begin harvests in November. The cooperative's president, Eloísa Román Tirado, noted that while other areas like El Salto suspended fishing due to high temperatures and low market prices caused by Chinese imports, Picachos producers are timing their season to seek better returns. The cooperative is currently lacking the infrastructure required to process fish into fillets, a suggestion previously proposed by federal agricultural authorities.
