Chubut authorizes sport fishing in Andean waters

The Chubut provincial government has authorized continental sport fishing in select Andean water bodies through October 30. This early opening aims to promote tourism in the cordillera region during the spring season.

The authorization applies to the Futaleufú River, Corcovado River, Laguna Larga, Lago Fontana, and Lago La Plata. Other aquatic environments in the province will remain closed to fishing until next month.

To ensure sustainable resource management, the regulation mandates a “mandatory return of all captured specimens,” which must be released into the water alive and with minimal damage. Officials stated that previous years of early opening have shown satisfactory results without negative ecological impacts. Additionally, the Secretariat of Fisheries is providing new apparel to natural resource inspectors to assist in monitoring and enforcement activities.
