Chubut health officials issue carbon monoxide safety warnings
The Chubut Government, through its Health Secretariat, has issued reinforced recommendations to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning in homes due to persistent low temperatures and increased heating use.
Key safety measures include daily ventilation of indoor spaces, keeping ventilation grilles unobstructed, and ensuring gas appliance flames are blue. Authorities advise against using stovetops or ovens for heating and warn against installing water heaters inside bathrooms. It is also recommended to use balanced-flue heaters and ensure all gas equipment is periodically inspected by a certified technician.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that displaces oxygen in the blood. Symptoms of poisoning can resemble flu or indigestion, including intense headaches, nausea, vomiting, muscle weakness, drowsiness, palpitations, and ear ringing. Severe cases may lead to chest pain and loss of consciousness. In the event of symptoms, the affected person should be moved to fresh air and emergency services (107) should be contacted immediately.
