Chubut implements pet estimation protocol in Puerto Madryn and Trelew

The Chubut Government has implemented a canine and feline estimation protocol in the San Miguel neighborhood of Puerto Madryn and the Corradi neighborhood of Trelew. Conducted by the Provincial Zoonosis Department in collaboration with municipal teams, the initiative uses a methodology developed by the National Ministry of Health to gather sanitary data for territorial planning.

The survey aimed to estimate the number of domestic dogs and cats, as well as roaming dogs, to better direct rabies vaccination efforts and responsible ownership campaigns. In San Miguel, the estimate was one domestic dog for every 1.9 inhabitants, with 2.7 roaming dogs per block. In Corradi, the ratio was one domestic dog per 1.7 inhabitants, with 0.43 roaming dogs per block. These findings will assist in calculating necessary supplies and identifying areas requiring reinforced sanitary interventions.
