Chubut observes provincial holiday for indigenous peoples' oath

Public employees in the Chubut province of Argentina are observing a provincial holiday on Monday, November 2. The date commemorates the oath of loyalty to the Argentine flag taken by indigenous leaders, including Cacique Casimiro Biguá and other Tehuelche and Mapuche leaders, on November 3, 1869.

While the historical event occurred on November 3, provincial holiday regulations moved the observance to Monday to create a three-day weekend. The holiday is established under Provincial Law No. 547, which has been in effect since 2014. The commemoration symbolizes the historical link between indigenous peoples and the Argentine nation.
