Chubut regulates medicinal cannabis and industrial hemp
The Chubut provincial government has issued Decree No. 1680/2026 to regulate Law I No. 790, also known as the Salomé Law. This regulation establishes the framework for developing a medicinal cannabis and industrial hemp industry, aiming to attract investment and strengthen patient access to therapeutic treatments.
The new regulations allow authorized pharmacies to dispense cannabis flowers and derivatives upon presentation of a valid medical prescription. While the law distinguishes this commercial access from medicinal self-cultivation, it also incorporates a system of licenses, authorizations, and controls to ensure predictability for producers, scientific institutions, and entrepreneurs.
Implementation details regarding the specific start date for pharmacy sales and the exact supply chain procedures are still being finalized. The regulatory framework was developed through collaboration between the Secretariats of Health, Production, and Security and Justice, following the law's unanimous approval by the provincial legislature in September 2024.
