Chuck Bednarik Award preseason watchlist announced
The Maxwell Football Club has announced the preseason watchlist for the 2026 Chuck Bednarik Award, which recognizes the top defensive player in college football. The list features approximately 91 student-athletes from across the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), representing 10 different conferences.
Several programs have multiple candidates on the list. Alabama features three players: safety Bray Hubbard, cornerback Zabien Brown, and linebacker Yhonzae Pierre. BYU also has three representatives: linebackers Isaiah Glasker and Cade Uluave, and safety Faletau Satuala. Ole Miss has two players, Will Echoles and Keaton Thomas, while Texas also has two candidates, Rasheem Biles and Colin Simmons.
Other notable individual selections include Kam Robinson from Virginia, DJ Walker from Ohio University, Blake Fletcher from Air Force, Ja’Bril Rawls from Florida State, and Kemari Copeland from Virginia Tech. The award, named in honor of Hall of Famer Chuck Bednarik, will see its semifinalists announced on November 10, with finalists revealed on November 24 and the winner announced on December 10.
