Chuck Billy discusses missed opportunity to join Sepultura

Chuck Billy, the vocalist for the thrash metal band Testament, recently shared details regarding a missed opportunity to join the Brazilian band Sepultura in 1997. Following the departure of Max Cavalera in 1996, Sepultura sought a new frontman.

Billy recorded a demo featuring Sepultura tracks such as “Refuse/Resist” and “Territory,” as well as a version of “Choke.” Although he felt the performance was strong and received positive feedback, the band had already selected Derrick Green by the time his audition arrived.

Billy noted that during this period, Testament was facing instability due to departing original members and a changing musical landscape. He expressed that he does not regret the outcome, stating that things happen for a reason. Since then, both artists have continued successful careers: Billy with Testament and Green with Sepultura.
