Chuck Grassley files for reelection to Senate

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), 93, has filed to run for another six-year term in 2028. Grassley is the longest-serving Republican in the history of Congress and currently serves as Senate president pro tempore, making him third in the line of presidential succession.

If successful in his bid for a ninth term, Grassley would remain in office until he is 101 years old. His current eighth term is scheduled to run through January 3, 2029.

Grassley previously expressed concerns regarding the importance of Republican control of the Iowa governorship. Under state law, if a Senate vacancy occurs, the governor appoints a temporary replacement to serve until a successor is chosen in the next general election.
