Chungcheongnam-do seeks to strengthen public healthcare services

Chungcheongnam-do is seeking ways to improve public healthcare services and stabilize the management of its regional medical centers. Governor Park Su-hyeon held a policy forum with directors from four public medical centers and various experts to discuss strengthening public medical functions and addressing financial difficulties.

Key challenges identified include management deficits, rising labor costs due to prolonged medical disputes, and limited capacity for investment in essential medical services. Specific regional issues were also highlighted: Cheonan Medical Center faces competition from large university hospitals and accessibility issues; Gongju Medical Center struggles with patient outflow to the Daejeon and Sejong areas; Seosan Medical Center deals with competition from private hospitals and construction inconveniences; and Hongseong Medical Center faces parking shortages.

The provincial government plans to establish a comprehensive development strategy for the current administration, defining differentiated roles for each medical center based on local demand and conditions. Governor Park emphasized that the goal is not merely to reduce deficits but to create a virtuous cycle where improved medical quality and essential care capabilities lead to financial stability.
