Chungju to build 2km hydrogen pipeline for domestic technology testing

Chungcheongbuk-do and Chungju are advancing a project to establish a 2km hydrogen pipeline network to verify the safety and durability of domestically developed hydrogen pipeline technology. Funded entirely by 5.1 billion KRW in national subsidies, the project will run from 2026 to 2028.

The demonstration will connect the Wonik Materials ammonia-to-hydrogen production base to a hydrogen refueling station and a specialized vehicle hydrogen power pack technology support center. This infrastructure aims to create a stable production-distribution-utilization foundation for hydrogen.

In addition to the pipeline project, Chungju is accelerating the construction of green hydrogen infrastructure using hydroelectric power from the Chungju Dam. The city plans to integrate these various hydrogen production methods—including bio-hydrogen, ammonia-based, and water electrolysis—into a comprehensive hydrogen supply system to establish the region as a central hub for the clean hydrogen industry.
