Chungnam Governor seeks to host UN AI Hub at UNDP headquarters
Chungnam Governor Park Su-hyeon met with UNDP Deputy President Xu Haoliang at the UNDP headquarters in New York to discuss hosting the ‘UN AI Hub for Sustainable Development’. During the meeting, Governor Park outlined the ‘Chungnam-style AI Transformation’ model, which focuses on maintaining balance between industry and people, large and small enterprises, and advanced and traditional industries.
Governor Park highlighted Chungnam’s readiness to host the hub, citing its concentration of high-tech companies, investment, 29 universities, and superior infrastructure. The UNDP Deputy President noted that Chungnam’s vision aligns with the UNDP’s sustainable development goals, though he advised that AI implementation must address security, energy issues, and the digital divide.
The UN AI Hub, which was officially launched last June following approval during Italy’s G7 presidency, aims to establish AI standards, build international technical cooperation networks, and develop AI solutions for global challenges. The South Korean government plans to select a location for the hub within the year through a public contest for provincial governments.
