Chungnam Governor visits BASF headquarters to study carbon neutrality

Chungnam Governor Park Su-hyeon visited the BASF headquarters in Ludwigshafen, Germany, to study methods for strengthening the competitiveness of the Daesan Petrochemical Complex in South Korea and achieving carbon neutrality.

During the visit, Park inspected BASF’s integrated production system, which utilizes the ‘Verbund’ concept. This system maximizes resource efficiency by linking production facilities, raw materials, and energy flows so that byproducts from one process serve as raw materials for another, thereby reducing carbon emissions and increasing cost-competitiveness.

BASF, which has operated a bio-surfactant plant in the Daesan complex since March, manages the world’s largest single-site petrochemical complex in Ludwigshafen. Park expressed interest in BASF’s integrated infrastructure, including its power plants, methane treatment facilities, and green hydrogen production, noting that the Verbund system represents a significant value for industrial solidarity and technological advancement.
