Chungnam Office of Education announces K-character education plans

The Chungnam Office of Education has announced a new 'K-character education' initiative aimed at fostering intergenerational empathy. Under the plan, approximately 70 schools will be designated as leaders in character education, facilitating activities such as visiting senior centers and participating in volunteer work to connect students with the elderly.

Regarding the provincial government's 'Love Diary Writing Movement,' Superintendent Lee Byeong-do expressed caution against mandatory daily writing. To protect school autonomy and prevent undue burdens on teachers and parents, the Office of Education will implement the program as a voluntary project through a public contest, allowing interested schools and classes to participate rather than enforcing it across all institutions.

The initiative includes social-emotional learning, conflict prevention programs, and activities such as writing autobiographies with seniors. The Office of Education plans to use AI to automate administrative tasks to reduce teacher workload and will implement strict safety and instructor verification standards for all off-campus activities.
