Chungnam Province to develop defense industry hub

Chungnam Province is accelerating efforts to become a global hub for the K-defense industry. Through the Chungnam-Nonsan Defense Innovation Cluster project, the province plans to invest a total of 49.9 billion won, including 24.5 billion won in national funds, by 2030. This initiative will focus specifically on advanced defense technologies, such as AI-powered defense robots.

For the current year, the province is allocating 58.34 billion won toward 28 different projects. These include the establishment of the Nonsan National Defense Industrial Complex, the construction of a Defense Future Aviation Research Center, corporate nurturing, and professional talent development.

During a recent meeting of the Chungnam Defense Industry Development Council, officials and experts discussed ways to maximize policy effectiveness and strengthen cooperation between research institutes, universities, and private companies to secure a competitive edge in the future high-tech defense sector.
