Chungnam Provincial Council strengthens school asbestos safety oversight

The Chungnam Provincial Council is strengthening the responsibility of the Superintendent of Education regarding asbestos safety management in schools to prevent health damage to students and staff. A proposed amendment to the ‘Chungnam Provincial Office of Education School Asbestos Safety Management and Support Ordinance’ passed the Education Committee review on September 9.

The amendment mandates that the Superintendent establish asbestos safety policies and secure necessary budgets. It also requires school principals to disclose asbestos survey results to ensure transparency for parents and the educational community. Additionally, the amendment aims to refine regulations for operating school asbestos monitoring groups.

Separately, the Council's Education Committee conducted inspections of the Chungnam Provincial Office of Education Archives and the Student Health Education Center. The committee reviewed the status of digital record management systems and evaluated the operation of integrated health and nutrition programs for students, specifically looking into transportation support for students in remote areas.
