Chuo Shinkansen Maglev stations progress in Nagano and Kanagawa

Developments regarding the construction of the Chuo Shinkansen Maglev line are underway in Nagano and Kanagawa prefectures. In Nagano, local authorities in Iida City and the prefecture will launch a public survey on October 1 to select a station exterior design for the planned Nagano Prefecture Station. JR Central has proposed three designs inspired by the Ina Valley landscape, focusing on themes such as horizontal lines representing the Tenryu River, the concept of a gateway connecting different regions, and the shifting colors of natural scenery.

In Kanagawa, JR Central and its construction consortium announced that a portion of the track level (third basement floor) at the future Kanagawa Prefecture Station will be opened to the public for the first time. This event is part of the ‘Sagamihara Maglev Festa 2026,’ scheduled for October 24 and 25. The public viewing will include video projections and life-sized panels of Maglev vehicles. Due to the use of stairs for access to the underground levels, entry for wheelchairs and strollers will not be permitted.
