Church bell stolen in Nykøbing Mors
A 150-kilogram church bell was stolen from a business located on Bakkegårdsvej in Nykøbing Mors over a weekend. The bell, which is approximately 64–65 centimeters in diameter and made of matte bronze, was being used by Kirkeklokken ApS for church repair tasks.
Lars Bek Nielsen, the owner of Kirkeklokken ApS, noted that the bell was present on Friday but discovered missing on Monday. He expressed concern that the thieves may have intended to melt the bell down for its metal value and fears the object may have already been moved out of the country.
Police Commissioner Henrik Jensen of the Thisted Police noted the physical difficulty of transporting such a heavy object without significant effort. While the exact monetary value of the bell has not been established, authorities are investigating whether the motive was resale or smelting.
